Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Friday, August 5, 2022.
Gibbs-White reports
There are conflicting reports over the future of Morgan Gibbs-White amid claims that Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal for the Wolves attacking midfielder.
Steve Cooper had identified the 22-year-old as a key target in the current transfer market as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League this season. Forest have been linked with the player all summer and it appears they may have made a breakthrough in negotiations.
According to BBC Sport’s Natalie Jackson , Gibbs-White is "on the verge" of signing for Forest with a deal "in the final stages". She adds that Forest hope to get the transfer over the line "in the next few days". However, the Express and Star are reporting that no deal is in place and that Gibbs-White trained with Wolves as usual today (Thursday), with Forest still "pushing" for the transfer.

New captain named
Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has named Joe Worrall club captain ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
The captain's armband had been vacated when Lewis Grabban left the club on the expiry of his contract in the summer, and Worrall has now been given the role.
His fellow academy graduate Ryan Yates has been handed the role of vice-captain. The season gets under way on Saturday with a trip to Newcastle United and both players are relishing their new roles.
Winger set for exit
Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley is understood to be close to a move away from the club - with Australia his destination.
Lolley has seen his role become increasingly limited since his wonderful 2018/19 campaign when he scored 11 goals and added 11 assists, and the following campaign when he started 37 games and registered nine goals and nine assists.
He then suffered with muscle compartment syndrome - something which left him in pain in both legs every time he ran and though fit again last season, he was limited to 10 starts as he made 30 appearances in total, assisting just once and failing to score. The 29-year-old featured at the start of pre-season but was then forced to train with the Under-23s after being deemed surplus to requirements.
Cooper delivers transfer update
Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Coach is expecting the club to continue their prolific transfer business as they adapt to life in the Premier League.
The Reds have spent more than £80million on 12 players as they rebuild a promotion winning team ravaged by the departures of five loan players, as well as senior players in Brice Samba, Lewis Grabban and Tobias Figueiredo.
Forest have been linked with Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler and Willem II striker Jizz Hornkamp , while they continue to pursue a big money move for Wolves forward Morgan Gibbs-White . Cooper did not comment on individual names but admitted work continues to add further quality to the squad ahead of Saturday's opening game of the season at Newcastle United.
