Nottingham Forest promotion hero eyeing transfer as 'talks' take place

Nottingham Forest promotion hero Philip Zinckernagel is said to be in talks about his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Dane is currently on loan at Standard Liege from Olympiacos. And he has been in fine form since making the move in September.

Zinckernagel has made clear he would like to stay with the Belgian outfit, but admits the decision will not come down to him. Fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side Olympiacos are “thinking” about how he can play a part next season, according to Greek media outlet SDNA.

They quote Zinckernagel as telling newspaper La Capitale in a translated interview: "My managers are in talks with Standard and Olympiacos. I've said before that I want to stay, but it's just not up to me.

“Three parties are involved. Standard will always remain in my heart, even if the agreement is not reached.”

The 28-year-old has bagged eight league goals in 23 appearances for his loan club, including netting a brace on his debut. He had joined Olympiacos from Watford last summer, but has previously explained he left because he “didn’t want to play” for Carlos Corberan, who was later axed.

Zinckernagel was a fans’ favourite during his loan spell at the City Ground. He was a key figure as Steve Cooper’s side clinched their place in the Premier League, making 50 appearances in all competitions and scoring seven goals.

On the decision to leave Olympiacos, he has said: “I didn't want to play for the new coach, it was his predecessor who really wanted me. I couldn't see myself playing for him, which is why I decided to leave.

“If I chose Standard, it's because I know it's a great club. It hasn't had a good period recently, but it's still a great club.

“I didn't know the coach personally, but I knew his style of play. I don't think he sees me as a flank, but really as a number 10 in a 3-5-2, where I played last season, or else on the wing. I want to create a lot of chances on the pitch, that's what will help the team win games.”
