Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis makes FA statement after referee meeting in Greece

Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis has hit out at the Greek FA (EPO) following a meeting with the organisation this week.

Olympiacos are currently in play-off action at the end of the Greek Super League. The side kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 win over Volos, a game which saw Olympiacos pulled up for 22 fouls, compared to 15 from their opponents.

There has been controversy about how the play-off games have been refereed so far, with Marinakis one of those involved in a meeting to discuss the issues. The meeting was with the EPO president Takis Baltakos, and the referee chief Steve Bennett, as well as representatives from AEK Athens, PAOK and Volos, who are all involved in the play-offs.

It is said that recent controversial officiating and how to amend it was discussed in the meeting, but no agreement was reached between the parties in attendance. When walking out of the meeting, Marinakis told the waiting reporters: "You expect me to tell you what EPO is? Don't you know what EPO is? EPO is the worst thing there is."

Olympiacos are next in action on Sunday evening as they host Aris in their second play-off game. They will be hoping that there are no refereeing controversies in that clash.

It’s not the first time this season Marinakis has shown his dissatisfaction at the refereeing standards. Earlier this month it was reported that Forest were preparing an official complaint over decisions in Premier League games.

It was said that the club were putting together a list of mistakes made by match officials in games involving Forest this season, in order to submit to the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL). The decision to complain came after the 2-2 draw with Everton where Forest felt that they should have been awarded a free-kick in the build-up to the Toffees’ second goal.
