Nottingham Forest monitor Manchester United situation after £384m reveal

Nottingham Forest will be keeping tabs on David De Gea's situation at Manchester United as they look to keep hold of Dean Henderson.

The Reds signed the England goalkeeper on a season-long loan following promotion to the Premier League. Henderson spent last season as second choice behind De Gea at Old Trafford, despite being promised first team football.

Henderson replaced Brice Samba as Steve Cooper's number one, with England's World Cup squad on his radar in November. However, with his move to the East Midlands only temporary, Forest could struggle to re-sign the 25-year-old next summer.

According to The Telegraph, United are weighing up whether to trigger De Gea's contract at the end of the season. The 31-year-old goalkeeper has nine months on his current deal at Old Trafford, but Erik ten Hag's side have the option to extend until 2024.

However, after their wage bill reached a Premier League record £384 million last season, they could be set to part ways with the Spain goalkeeper. The report suggests Everton's Jordan Pickford is a possible alternative, but Henderson could also be a likely candidate to replace De Gea.

Henderson has made 29 appearances for United and would be very well-suited to take over in Manchester. The goalkeeper has been impressive during his short time in the East Midlands, saving penalties from compatriot Declan Rice and Harry Kane.
