Nottingham Forest medical 'a success' and flight set ahead of £12.7m transfer

Nottingham Forest have reportedly successfully completed Orel Mangala's medical tests in Athens ahead of a transfer to the club.

The Belgium international looks set the become Forest 's 12th signing of the summer in the coming days and further bolster their midfield. Lewis O'Brien has also been recruited in that area from Huddersfield Town, as has Paraguayan teenager Brandon Aguilera; though, he has been loaned back to his homeland until January, and Jesse Lingard.

After apparently flying into the Greek capital on Tuesday, the midfielder was due to undergo a medical on that same day, but that was reported as being delayed until Wednesday morning. A day later, the outcome of those results have now come to light.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that the player's 'medical tests is a success'. And although Mangala remained in Athens as of Thursday morning, a flight is set to take him to London today to complete a reported £12.7million move to the City Ground.

At this stage, featuring in Forest's final pre-season friendly over the summer against Valencia on Saturday seems a long shot. Unlike Lingard, though, Mangala has been involved in pre-season for Stuttgart throughout the summer, so should be able to get up to speed quickly ahead of the season.

The midfielder has also actually played against Premier League opposition this month, which should stand him in good stead for the following months. Mangala came on as a second-half substitute for the best part of the last half-an-hour as the German side turned around a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win courtesy of a 92nd-minute penalty.

Do you think Forest need another midfielder in addition to Mangala? Have you say in the comments...
