Nottingham Forest make statement in wake of postponed Bournemouth clash

Nottingham Forest say they tried their “very best” to get tonight’s postponed clash with Bournemouth played.

The match at the Vitality Stadium has been officially called off four hours before it was due to kick-off at 7.45pm on the south coast, in the wake of havoc wreaked by Storm Eustice.

Many Reds fans, however, had already started to make the long trip down to the ground from Nottingham, amid confusion over whether it would actually be played or not.

A statement from the club said: “Nottingham Forest have received confirmation from AFC Bournemouth that tonight’s match has regrettably been postponed.

“The club truly appreciates the efforts of supporters already in Bournemouth and those travelling this afternoon.

“We are extremely disappointed the match will not now take place this weekend. The club tried its very best to have the match played.

“The club will confirm details in due course of free coach travel to the rearranged fixture for those who have missed out, as a thank you for your support.

“We wish our supporters a safe journey home and we look forward to seeing you all at Preston on Tuesday.”

The match had originally been scheduled for Saturday, February 19, but was moved to be shown live on Sky TV.

Forest are understood to have hoped the game could still be played on that date, but a new date will now be scheduled.

Bournemouth had said on Thursday night: “The club is working alongside its Safety Advisory Group, the EFL and Nottingham Forest, and will provide relevant information to all those planning to travel as soon as possible on Friday."
