Nottingham Forest 'leading the chase' for Man City transfer but face Premier League competition

Nottingham Forest and Fulham are claimed to be "leading the chase" to sign Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The centre-back captained the England team that won the Under-21 European Championships last weekend, having also played alongside Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White. Lee Carsley's team beat Spain 1-0 in Batumi, Georgia to lift the Young Lions' first Euros title in 39 years.

Harwood-Bellis spent last season on loan at Vincent Kompany's Burnley. The 21-year-old impressed in the Championship, helping the Clarets win the title and secure a place in the Premier League where they will kick off the new campaign at home to Man City on August 11.

And 90min claim that the Reds and Fulham have stolen a march in an attempt to sign the defender this summer. The Citizens' centre-back has just a year left on his current deal at the Etihad.

However, it is also claimed that he could also "tempt long-term admirers" including Europa Conference League winners West Ham and Champions League side Newcastle.

The report also claims that Burnley may also try to sign Harwood-Bellis on a permanent deal ahead of their return to the top flight.

Forest are yet to make any new additions to their squad so far this summer but their first piece of transfer business has been striker Chris Wood, joining permanently from Newcastle United. He spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground.
