Nottingham Forest 'interested' in 14-goal striker transfer amid Taiwo Awoniyi deal

Nottingham Forest are reportedly still ‘interested’ in a move for Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk this summer.

Steve Cooper will be keen to add to his squad as the Reds make their long-awaited return to the Premier League. Forest are understood to be closing in on a club-record deal for Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who is set to undergo a medical ahead of his move to the club.

The Reds earned their place back in the top-flight with a play-off final win over Huddersfield Town. Cooper opted for a front two of Brennan Johnson and Aston Villa loanee Keinan Davis on that memorable day at Wembley but the manager appears keen to revamp his striking options.

It has now been reported by football journalist Ekrem Konur that Forest are ‘interested’ in Dnipro-1 striker Artem Dovbyk. The 25 year-old scored 14 goals in 17 league games and provided five assists before the season was cut short due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Forest may face a battle for the Ukraine international’s signature, though. Konur has suggested that fellow Premier League side Brentford, as well as Italian clubs Bologna and Torino, are also fans of the striker.

It is not the first time that Forest have been touted with a move for Dovbyk , with reports claiming that the club were ‘in talks’ over a deal earlier this month. However, the timing of the link is intriguing given the impending arrival of Awoniyi.

The player’s agent reportedly confirmed that ‘negotiations’ had taken place over a move, with a £10 million fee mooted. Serie A club Torino was also mentioned as a possible destination for Dovbyk in the earlier reports.

Despite his role in helping Forest achieve promotion, it appears that the price tag placed on Keinan Davis may have persuaded the Reds to pursue other targets. Elsewhere, captain Lewis Grabban is yet to sign a new contract and both Lyle Taylor and Nuno Da Costa are returning from loan spells.

Would signing Dovbyk make sense for Forest? Let us know in the comments section below.
