Nottingham Forest are reportedly in the "final stages" of completing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler.
The Switzerland international joined the Italian side in January 2016 and has been a mainstay of Gian Piero Gasperini’s midfield. Freuler made 43 appearances across all competitions last season, with the 30-year-old captaining the club in both their games against Manchester United in the Champions League.
It was reported last week that Steve Cooper ’s side had reached a "verbal agreement" with Freuler over a move to the City Ground but had yet to settle on a fee with Atalanta. In a further update, it has been claimed that Forest are close to resolving the issue.

Football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on Wednesday night that the Reds are "getting closer" to wrapping up a deal for Freuler. A fee of around €9million is said to have been negotiated and is "progressing to the final stages". Romano stated that a move to Forest is viewed as a "priority" for Freuler.
Tutto Mercato have now claimed that the total fee is €12million, including bonuses, placing the deal in the region of £10million. The Italian outlet has said that Freuler has agreed a three-year deal and will fly to England later today (Thursday).
Negotiations between the two sides had previously been described as "not easy" by Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. The Reds reportedly submitted an improved £8million offer for the midfielder after seeing their initial £6million bid rejected.
Freuler has made 260 appearances for Atalanta throughout his time at the club, contributing 21 goals and 23 assists. Currently vice-captain at the Bergamo-based club, Freuler would be a top-quality addition to Forest’s midfield having featured 40 times across the Champions League and Europa League.
Steve Cooper has already made 12 new signings as the Reds look to equip themselves for their return to the top-flight. Lewis O’Brien and Orel Mangala have arrived in order to bolster Forest's midfield options, with the club continuing to be linked with a return move for previous loanee James Garner.
