Nottingham Forest fans warned over Lady Bay Bridge closure impact for start of the season

Football and cricket fans are being warned they may face some disruption due to the ongoing closure of Lady Bay Bridge following a serious crash. The bridge - a key route into the city which is situated very near to Nottingham Forest's City Ground, Meadow Lane and Trent Bridge - is expected to remain partially closed for weeks, if not months.

It comes after a lorry crashed off the structure on Monday, July 4 morning. Emergency services rushed to the scene and police have confirmed the driver of the vehicle suffered injuries which are not believed to life altering or life threatening at this stage.

Nottinghamshire County Council's Highways officials are urging motorists to find an alternative routes for the time being after confirming the impact of the incident would continue for weeks, if not months.

The incident caused damage to the bridge which must be repaired before it can be fully reopened, and while it's hoped it might be able to reopen one way next week the full extent of the damage has still to be assessed.

Nottinghamshire County Councillor Neil Clarke, Transport & Environment Committee chairman has warned football fans they may be impacted. at the start of the new season.

He said :"I am afraid it will be affected for many weeks. It could be into a few months, possibly.

Speaking about the impact on Nottingham's nearby sports grounds, he added: "There'll be a lot of coordination taking place with the major events venues and also, there'll be conversations with people like bus operators and others when the football season starts to make sure the coach operators are aware - and other people visiting are aware of the limitations because we can't promise it's going to be open for the start of the football season. I think it's going to go into the start of the football season. It's important that we communicate with the public as much as possible."
