Nottingham Forest reportedly face transfer competition for Festy Ebosele with Derby County said to have received "a number" of offers for the teenager.
The 19-year-old featured against Forest in Saturday’s East Midlands derby win over the Rams as the Reds came out as 2-1 winners at the City Ground.
He has played a total of 18 times in the Championship so far this campaign after breaking into the first team during pre-season.
The teenager is out of contract this summer, meaning that he is gaining interest from near and far, especially given Derby’s financial situation.
Reports say that a £500,000 move from Forest for the youngster has already been ‘rejected’ ahead of next week’s deadline.
Amid Forest’s interest in the player, the Reds could also face competition from a number of overseas clubs.
According to the Athletic, at least three clubs from Germany, as well as other clubs from Italy, have registered a "firm interest" in Ebosele.
Derby’s administrators are still on the lookout for a new buyer for the club, but it is said that "serious consideration" will have to be given to raising money through player sales should the situation not change in the coming week.
Speaking earlier this month, Rooney said that he couldn’t rule out the possibility of more player sales during the January window.
"I don't know, honestly I don't know. That's out of my control,” he said (via DerbyshireLive).
"My relationship with the players is built on trust and honesty. I can't look them in the eye, and where we are at at the minute, and give them anything, really, only just prepare them and get them ready [for matches].
"Any decisions made like (Graeme) Shinnie, for instance, will be through the administrators. I want to keep all the players.”
