Nottingham Forest 'eyeing' summer transfer swoop for free agent striker

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a summer move for free agent striker Milan Djuric.

The Reds will look to bolster their attacking arsenal as they plan for life in the Premier League, following Sunday’s victory over Huddersfield Town at Wembley. But although owner Evangelos Marinakis will back boss Steve Cooper with funds to strengthen his squad, CEO Dane Murphy has stressed investment must be “balanced and purposeful”.

Djuric will be out of contract at Italian outfit Salernitana at the end of this month and is yet to pen a new deal. Forest and fellow top-flight side Brentford are interested in securing his signature, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The forward is also said to have admirers elsewhere in Italy, including Fiorentina. Besiktas have also been suggested as potential suitors.

The 32-year-old has had a taste of English football previously, with Bristol City. He scored five goals in 31 games for the Robins between January 2017 and the summer of 2018, before moving to Salernitana.

Djuric also counts Cesena, Parma, Ascoli, Crotone, Cremonese, Trapani and Cittadella among his former clubs. He has represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at international level. This season, he made 33 appearances in Serie A and scored five goals.

Forest are expected to explore the possibility of bringing Keinan Davis back to the City Ground, following a successful loan spell from Aston Villa. They also have Sam Surridge and Brennan Johnson as attacking options on the books.

Reds captain Lewis Grabban is out of contract this summer. And decisions will need to be made, too, on fellow front men Lyle Taylor and Nuno Da Costa, who have been out on loan.
