Nottingham Forest have confirmed that goalkeeper George Shelvey has signed a new deal with the club, extending his stay at the City Ground.
The 22-year-old has signed a new one-year contract with the Reds with the option of a further one-year extension. The academy graduate has been part of the first team squad this season, although he is yet to make a first team appearance for the club.
The goalkeeper was named on the bench for the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur back in March, as well as the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final vs Manchester United. He has played nine times in Premier League 2 for the development squad this season, keeping three clean sheets.

Reacting to his new contract, Shelvey spoke of his delight and the aims of the team in the final two weeks of the Premier League season. “I’m absolutely delighted to sign this new deal with the Club and would like to thank the support from the staff, players, my family and of course the fans,” he told the club’s official website .
“This next chapter is very exciting for me and everyone close to me and I can’t wait to keep pushing forward. We have a massive few weeks coming up and our focus is on keeping this amazing club where it belongs and to push on again next season.”
Shelvey spent the first half of last season on loan with League Two side Mansfield Town, but failed to make a league appearance for the club. He did play three times in the EFL Trophy before returning to Forest in January.
Another loan move could be a possibility for the goalkeeper in the summer as he searches for first team opportunities. However, uncertainty over Forest’s goalkeeping situation with both Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas due to return to their parent clubs could give the academy graduate a chance to stake his place.
