Nottingham Forest have confirmed defender Serge Aurier has triggered an automatic one-year extension to his contract.
The defender revealed earlier this year an extra 12 months on his deal would come into effect in the event of survival being secured. The Reds achieved safety with a game to spare, and now the club have announced Aurier’s services have been secured for another season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Aurier made the switch to the City Ground last September as a free agent. His contract will now run until summer 2024.

The right-back became a key figure for Steve Cooper’s side as they beat the drop. He made 28 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
He said earlier this year, when Forest’s Premier League status was still in doubt: “We don’t know what is going to happen. Maybe next season we are not in the Premier League.
“We need to see. If we stay in the Premier League, why not? But right now, it is too difficult to decide something.
“My first goal is to help the team stay in the Premier League. That is my number one objective. After that, we will see. We have a lot of time.

Asked if that means talks will likely resume once the Reds know which division they will be in next term, Aurier added: “If we stay up, I have one more year. I signed because I believe we can stay up.”
Cooper has previously said of Aurier: “He’s had a real positive influence, both on and off the pitch. He’s really brought what you’d hope a player of his experience would bring, in terms of where he’s been and what he’s done. He’s ended up being a big part of our culture, Serge.”
