After some pre-match reading ahead of Nottingham Forest taking on Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final? Well, here are the latest Reds headlines...
Forest 'confident' of landing double transfer deal
Nottingham Forest are claimed to have "quiet optimism" that Djed Spence could end up at the City Ground next season.
Spence has been one of a number of stand-out players for Forest this season and has played a key role in helping Steve Cooper's side reach the Championship play-off final - where they play Huddersfield Town on Sunday (May 29).
Whilst Spence is expected to return to his parent club Middlesbrough in the summer, his impressive performances have resulted in clubs across England and wider Europe taking an interest in the wing-back.
According to The Guardian, however, Forest are confident that "at least two" of their current loanees will remain at the City Ground for next season. In addition to Spence, the Reds currently have Keinan Davis (Aston Villa), James Garner (Manchester United), Philip Zinckernagel (Watford), and Max Lowe (Sheffield United) on temporary deals
Forest old boy to be used as pawn in Man Utd swap deal
Newcastle United could look to use former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow as part of a swap deal to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United, according to reports.
Eddie Howe is said to be eager to shore up a leaky defence at St James' Park by adding a new goalkeeper this summer. The Magpies conceded 62 goals as they finished 11th in the Premier League this term; only Everton (66), Southampton (67), Watford (77), Leeds (79) and Norwich City (84) conceded more.
Newcastle have reportedly set their sights on Manchester United's Henderson as the man who could help fix their problem in a move which would see shot-stopper Martin Dubravka replaced as the number one.
According to The Sun, Darlow could be used as a pawn to complete a permanent transfer for Henderson. The Red Devils shot-stopper is claimed to only be keen on a season-long loan, but the Magpies hope offering Darlow may push the deal "over the line" due to Erik ten Hag needing another goalkeeper at Old Trafford.
Why promotion windfall means more for Forest than Huddersfield
The play-off final’s prize fund will have a much greater impact for Nottingham Forest than their opponents Huddersfield, it has been suggested.
The Reds hope to get back into the top flight for the first time in more than 20 years and the Premier League’s global audience means there is a big financial windfall that comes with earning promotion.
with Huddersfield still receiving parachute payments from when they were relegated to the Championship in 2019, football finance expert Kieran Maguire reckons the potential £170m prize pot will be much more important for Forest.
He told the Mirror: “Huddersfield are in receipt of parachute payments still, whilst I would say Forest are much closer to the limit in terms of Financial Fair Play (FFP) so they've got less wiggle room. Forest have had to rely on player sales, debt write-offs."
Man Utd man sends James Garner brilliant message
Nottingham Forest loanee James Garner has received a good luck message from close friend and Manchester United teammate Brandon Williams ahead of the play-off final.
The pair, both 21, have struck up a close bond since coming through the Red Devils' youth ranks. Williams enjoyed a regular spot in the United squad during the 2019/20, but could be on his way towards an exit from Old Trafford having recently returned from a loan spell at Norwich this term
Garner has also been sent out on loan to continue his development away from Old Trafford. The 21-year-old midfielder has played an instrumental role under Steve Cooper at Forest, really flourishing since the turn of the new year.
Williams posted a message on Saturday morning to say he was unable to be present at Wembley but sent good luck wishes.
As per the Manchester Evening News, Williams wrote: “Sunday, my bro plays the biggest game of his life. Gutted couldn’t make it but he’s going to make the impossible possible, simple. Love you brother all the best.”
