Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Monday, August 8, 2022.
Forest 'recruited' Charnley
Nottingham Forest are reported to be bringing in former Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley to take up a consultancy role at the club.
Charnley left Newcastle in November of last year following a takeover of the club. He had spent 22 years at St James' Park in total, and worked closely with previous owner Mike Ashley as MD for the last seven of those.
The Telegraph reports that Charnley will join Forest "on a consultancy basis to help with the tricky transition to the top flight" after 23 years outside of the Premier League. It is said that the 44-year-old "has been recruited at the request of the current chief executive Dane Murphy ".

Forest 'agree' £9m transfer fee
Nottingham Forest have reportedly "agreed" a £9million transfer fee to sign Real Betis full-back Álex Moreno - with a medical said to be scheduled for this week.
The 29-year-old has been linked with the Reds throughout the summer transfer window, with an opening bid reportedly rejected earlier in the window. At the time, the Spanish side were said to be holding out for a fee of around €20million (£17 million).
A reported joint bid to sign Moreno and William Carvalho for just €10m emerged just last weekend, which was apparently also 'rejected outright'. Regardless, these latest reports suggest that Forest have finally got their man.
Verbal transfer 'agreement'
Nottingham Forest have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Remo Freuler for a move to the City Ground but his club, Atalanta, are yet to agree a fee with Steve Cooper's side.
The Atalanta midfielder emerged as 'one of the targets on the list' for Reds boss Steve Cooper, as he looks to bolster the Reds' midfield options, this summer. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Freuler is keen to move to the East Midlands but negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing and have been described as 'not easy.'
Forest had submitted an improved offer of £8 million for the midfielder earlier this week, after an initial bid of £6m. Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato also reported that the Reds were 'one step' away from striking a deal.
Ferdinand's Forest put down
Rio Ferdinand has questioned Jesse Lingard's decision to join Nottingham Forest after his impressive loan stint at West Ham United during the 2020/21 campaign.
The 29-year-old agreed a one-year deal at the City Ground last month after departing Old Trafford upon 11 years at Manchester United. Lingard made his Premier League debut for the Reds in the defeat at Newcastle United, featuring the full 90 minutes.
But his move to Trentside has come as a surprise to many after his stint at the London Stadium in the second-half of the season before last. He scored nine goals in 16 outings, while providing five assists along the way.
