Midfielder Ryan Yates has suffered a minor injury setback ahead of the start of Nottingham Forest’s season.
The 24-year-old had made his comeback from a knee problem on Tuesday night, playing the first 45 minutes of the 2-2 draw against Notts County. But he was not included in the squad for the Reds’ final friendly of the summer, against Valencia.
Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was also absent as Forest drew 1-1 with the Spanish side at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground. Boss Steve Cooper says the summer signing is expected to join in training ahead of next weekend’s season opener at Newcastle United. But the Welshman added Yates faces a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

“Ryan played 45 minutes against Notts County the other day. He’s picked up another knock on his knee, so he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks,” Cooper said.
“You can imagine what he’s been like! It’s been a challenge for him to get back and get some minutes. It would have been great to have involved him today, but he’s just had a little bit of a few setbacks in pre-season.
“You know Yatesy, what hurts him will make him stronger. They are only minor things, and we will see him sooner rather than later.
“Wayne has just picked up a bit of a quad problem. But he should be fine for training this week and for Newcastle.”
Jesse Lingard made his debut in the Garibaldi against Valencia. Brennan Johnson equalised in the second half after Forest had found themselves a goal down at the break.
