Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge is making progress in his recovery from a groin injury as he aims to be fit for the start of the Premier League season.
After playing a key part in the Reds’ promotion success, the 23-year-old missed the celebration event in Market Square as he went to Germany for an operation. He has been working hard on his rehabilitation over the summer and is currently with his teammates for a training camp in Spain.
Surridge says he is keen not to put a timeframe on his return. However, he is eager to be available for the opening game of the campaign, when Steve Cooper’s side make the trip to face Newcastle United.

“I did it a few games in. It was a little one; a hernia. They diagnosed that towards the end of the season,” the front man told the club website.
“It was leading into my groin. It was uncomfortable. But Keinan (Davis) got injured and Grabbs (Lewis Grabban) got injured, so I needed to keep going.
“It was getting worse and worse. But I wanted to wait until the end of the season to get it done. It’s paid off.
“The recovery is going really good. Hopefully I’ll be back in a couple of weeks.
“I’m not really putting a time on it. I want to be back as soon as I can, but I just want to get stronger and ready for the new season.
“It’s going to be tough, but I think I’m ready for it (the Premier League) now. I’m at that age where I want to prove that I’m ready to play at this level.
“I think I can. You’re going to be playing against some of the best players in the world, so it’s going to be a big challenge for everyone, but we’re all ready for it.”
