Nottingham councillor mysteriously expelled from Labour Party and will not be candidate in election

A Nottingham councillor has been mysteriously expelled from the Labour Party. Councillor Hassan Ahmed, who represents the Radford ward on Nottingham City Council, was expelled from the Labour Party yesterday (Wednesday, March 22), a spokesperson has confirmed.

The reason for his expulsion has not yet been explained. A Labour spokesperson also confirmed that he would not be standing as one of their candidates in the local elections on May 4, 2023.

When contacted by Nottinghamshire Live, Mr Ahmed said he was unavailable to talk. Mr Ahmed, who was formerly the city council's portfolio holder for employment and skills, previously stood down from elected office due to what he said were “family commitments and health concerns” in 2011.
