Nottingham City Council selling one of its car parks as savings drive continues

Nottingham City Council is planning to sell off one of its car parks as it continues to balance its books in a bid to avoid Government intervention. The authority has declared that its car park in Gamble Street, at the junction with Newdigate Street, between Radford and Forest Fields, is now "surplus" to its requirements, and the authority has made the decision to make the freehold available for sale.

Describing the Gamble Street facility, a Nottingham City Council report says: "The property is typical of low value assets in the trading account that do not meet the criteria for retention. It is in a stand-alone position with no strategic need for retention. The property has had no inward investment for many years."

Reviewing all council-owned assets was one of the key priorities of the latest Together for Nottingham Plan, set out earlier this year. The plan was drawn up to to address the "seriousness of the financial, governance and operational challenges" faced by the council in the wake of problems including the collapse of Robin Hood Energy.
