The owner of a long-established cafe in Nottingham which serves breakfast for just under £5 has shared how they manage to keep their prices accessible to customers. Caroline White, 62, opened The Avenues in Sneinton 25 years ago - and has been at the helm serving customers ever since.
The cafe was initially located in the Sneinton Market, however, it moved to Gedling Street six years ago. "This was initially a warehouse. The builders here offered to help us when we moved in", Ms White said.
She vowed to always "put the customers first" - despite the rising costs which also affected the hospitality industry. A small breakfast, which includes coffee, tea or a glass of juice costs £4.95. Customers can upgrade to a large breakfast which is £6.50.

The menu also includes vegan and vegetarian options. "I have seen the Sneinton Market change before my eyes. We have seen everything", she added.
"It has sort of come down from Hockley now. There are more students in the area as well, so we offer a range of vegetarian and vegan options that are accessible.
"You actually see a range of people who come down here for breakfast or lunch. You get the builders in the morning, and then later on, you see a judge coming here for lunch. It is a nice atmosphere, it is for everybody."
She went on and said: "We have a good relationship with our suppliers who we have been working with for more than 20 years. We have a good relationship with our landlord as well.
"I think that is important when you see how the industry is being affected. But, our bills have quadrupled so we might have to make changes too.
"We will see what we will have to do. Our menu might be smaller next year, for example. We will always put our customers first."
She said, however, that she will not sacrifice the quality of the food and drinks on offer. Ms White added: "We have seen the challenges, even though we are a long-established business here.
"But the quality of our food will always be good. Our coffee is great, for example - it is from Sicily and it is real, high-quality coffee. We do not cut costs on the products and we will not do that in the future."
