Nottingham cafe forced to close reveals it will be reopening 'very soon'

A coffee shop which was forced to close down earlier this month has announced some 'exciting news' for fans. The Specialty Coffee Shop in Nottingham city centre blamed the closure on the pandemic, the crashing economy and the cost of living crisis.

The cafe first opened on the corner of Friar Lane and Maid Marian Way in 2016, specialising in top quality coffee, Italian sandwiches and mouth-watering cakes. The shop got off to a flying start and the following year was crowned Nottingham Independent Business of the Year.

But like many small businesses events of the last two years hit hard and on November 6 the coffee shop, run by Lucy Giacone and her partner Michelangelo Franco, closed down. However, they have since revealed that the coffee shop will be reopening but the date has yet to be announced.

They said: "Exciting news!! Specialty has been such a staple in the Nottingham coffee scene, and a lot of friends were sad to see it go so I’m very pleased to announce the cafe will be opening its doors once again!

"With the help of local investors and baristas, Specialty will reopen its doors very soon, so we will need your support to get this gem off its feet again. Watch this space."

Fans couldn't conceal their joy after the news was posted on the coffee shop's Facebook page. One said: "Congratulations that’s terrific news! Nottingham just wouldn’t be the same without Specialty Coffee Shop!" Shop Zero, the cafe's neighbours on Friar Lane, added: "This is so exciting."
