'Not worth it': banned A-League striker on brain-fade

Adelaide United striker Luka Jovanovic is still trying to process his mad minute: a match-winner, Golden Boot and a home final - plus a red card.

Jovanovic was delighted with his 98th minute match-winner in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Melbourne City, a triumph delivering the Reds second spot and a home semi-final.

So he ripped off his shirt in celebration - 60 seconds after being booked among an all-in melee.

Jovanovic's resultant red card rules him out of Adelaide's first semi.

"I didn't know in the moment," Jovanic, who also scored the equaliser against City, said on Monday.

"I thought straight away that I got a yellow card and ... nah, I don't think it was worth it.

"I wish I could play the next game but I know the boys will do the job."

The 20-year-old, whose prolific scoring has helped the rise of the Reds to second spot, said the reality of his goal celebration didn't immediately set in.

"I picked my shirt back up and I started walking to the halfway line," he said.

"And then I heard the ref call my name and I saw him holding a red card and I was like: 'Oh, my God'."

Jovanovic's goal was his 11th, earning him shared golden boot honours with Auckland's Sam Cosgrove.

But he is still expecting to wear the wrath of teammates and coaches for his red card.

"Not yet - the boys are still buzzing," he said.

"Maybe next week they will give me some comments.

"I haven't spoken to (coach) Airton (Andriolli) about it yet. He will probably have a chat with me next week about it."
