Newcastle United supporters are looking over their shoulders again as their cushion to the Premier League relegation zone was cut to seven points. Burnley cut that gap on Wednesday evening as Maxwel Cornet’s 85th-minute winner earned them a vital 3-2 win against Everton.
It added a whole new dimension to the battle at the bottom end and has left Eddie Howe aware of just how important United’s next few matches have become. There is still enough of a gap between the Magpies and the drop zone for anyone to be getting too worried,but a few more positive results on Tyneside are more essential than ever.
United are six and seven points clear of Everton and Burnley respectively, but both teams have a game in hand. However, Frank Lampard’s side’s torrid form and daunting fixture list will provide hope for Newcastle as the Toffees battle for the points required to stay in the top flight.
