McDonald's restaurants are back up and running all across Australia after many were forced to close when global technology failed.

The incident on Friday led to some staff being sent home and hundreds of reports to Downdetector about problems connecting to the McDonald's app, check-out and website.

A post from "Team Macca's" in the early hours of Saturday confirmed the technology outage had been resolved.

"All Macca's restaurants have now re-opened," the post on X (formerly Twitter) read.

"A huge thanks again to our wonderful customers and hard-working crew for your patience and support."

The issue appeared to have started after 4pm, and also affected countries across the globe, including the UK, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Denmark, Italy and Thailand.

The Chicago-based company has said the outage was caused by a third-party technology provider and was not a cybersecurity issue.
