Michel de Nostradame, who is now better known as Nostradamus, published his infamous book Les Prophéties nearly 500 years ago, and the book features 942 forecasts which seemingly predict the future.
The book's contents made horrific predictions on the Second World War, Hitler's rise to power, and the French Revolution - with most being eerily accurate.
The Frenchman is even said to have known US president John F Kennedy would be assassinated and the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York would take place.
Although the predictions do not reference specific dates, some of his forecasts have well and truly come to light this year.
Here are some of the predictions that seemingly came true this year.
Inflation
The French astrologer predicted that the world would see rising prices in a failing economy.
With the cost of living crisis continuing to reach new heights in the current economy, this forecast came true this year.
Nostradamus stated:
“No abbots, monks, no novices to learn;
"Honey shall cost far more than candle-wax”
“So high the price of wheat,
"That man is stirred
"His fellow man to eat in his despair”
A worldwide pandemic and political instability have all contributed to an inflation boom in recent years.
While Nostradamus' claims of rising inflation have come true this year, the prediction of cannibalism due to extortionate living costs is one that is yet to come true.
Global warming
Nostradamus predicted that temperatures would reach their breaking point this year as global warming takes its toll.
He stated:
“Like the sun the head shall sear the shining sea:
"The Black Sea’s living fish shall all but boil.
"When Rhodes and Genoa
"Half-starved shall be
"The local folk to cut them up shall toil.”
While life as we know it continues amidst the current climate emergency, England faced one of its hottest summers on record this year.
The Met Office revealed that the country had just 56 per cent (46.3mm) of its average rainfall in July.
The lack of rainfall meant that this was the driest July in England since 1935, a side effect of global warming.
On August 12, the scorching heatwave caused the government to declare drought status in parts of the South East, Central, and East of England.
That meant that millions of households were placed on a hosepipe ban in an effort to conserve water.
Elsewhere, other countries including France, Italy, and Portugal saw record-breaking droughts this year due to the effects of climate change.
The Queen's death
Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed in September after 70 years on the throne.
An author who interprets Nostradamus' predictions has drawn the conclusion that the prophet forecast the Queen's death this year.
In a book published in 2006, Mario Reading said his reading of one quatrain was that it predicted “Queen Elizabeth II will die, circa 2022, at the age of around 96”.
The book, titled The Complete Prophecies for the Future, climbed its way to the top of the paperback chart, according to The Sunday Times.
Prior to the Queen's death, the book had only sold five copies, however, after her passing on September 8, it went on to sell a staggering 8,000 copies the week after.
