Following a recent announcement by Norway's security agency, PST, the country has decided to introduce temporary border checks on its frontiers with other Western European nations. The decision comes after PST raised the terror threat level from 'moderate' to 'high,' citing a 'challenging threat picture' and an increased risk to Jewish and Israeli targets.
The border checks are set to be in place until October 22, as stated in a police announcement. Despite not being a member of the European Union, Norway is part of the Schengen area, which allows for ID-check free travel within participating countries. The country shares land borders with EU and Schengen members Sweden and Finland.
It is important to note that the new controls will not involve checking all travelers, and authorities have assured that there should be no significant delays at border crossings. The measures are being implemented as a precautionary step to enhance security in light of the heightened threat level.
