A new laser treatment that helps deal with small tumours in bladder cancer patients has been introduced by the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The first Northumbria Healthcare patients underwent the TULA (Transurethral Laser Ablation) procedure on Wednesday, July 27 which takes place under local anaesthetic as a day case and is "much less invasive". It is the first treatment involving lasers which has been introduced for outpatients at the trust.
The TULA procedure has been offered at the Freeman Hospital since last year, so its introduction at Northumbria Healthcare means that patients who would have previously gone to Newcastle no longer need to, freeing up their lists too.
