Northumberland coastal pub named one of the best in the UK with a sea view

In the North East, everyone knows Northumberland has some of the best sea views in the country - and they often include castles.

From Craster and Newton-by-the-Sea, you will marvel at the outline of the medieval fortress of Dunstanburgh Castle perched on a headland. And from Amble Harbour, which was recently voted one of the country's favourite views, the outline of Warkworth's cross-shaped keep will take your breath away.

However, it's the hulking fortress of Bamburgh in the north of the county that is undoubtedly the best-known. And in a recent article on the Mail, the Bamburgh Castle Inn in Seahouses; which opens out onto Bamburgh Castle, St Aidan's Dunes (one of the best beaches in the UK, according to The Times), and the village's picturesque harbour; was named one of the twelve best UK pubs with a sea view.

The Seahouses pub should not be confused with the identically named Bamburgh Castle Inn in neighbouring Bamburgh, though you're unlikely to be disappointed should you stop there for a meal or a drink. Richard Miller, the general manager of the Seahouses Bamburgh Castle Inn, said: "We’re enormously proud that our inn has got the recognition we firmly believe it deserves.

"We work extremely hard throughout the year to offer a fantastic place to visit and we’re thrilled to have been included in this list. It’s also great to see Northumberland receiving the recognition it deserves too."

The majority of visitors that the pub receives are tourists, though Richard does say that locals are welcome and there are a few regulars who come into enjoy the view. He continued: "There are numerous reasons why people visit us.

"Of course, our location is second to none - in the heart of the bustling fishing village of Seahouses with some of the most beautiful views of the north sea, Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands.

"We’ve just refurbished our pub area and increased covers to allow us to welcome even more visitors into our pub for them to enjoy a great experience with us. Finally though, I think it’s the warm welcome each and every one of our guests get from our team that adds something special to everyone’s visit."

In the article on the Mail, it was written: "Bamburgh Castle Inn overlooks the harbour in the fishing village of Seahouses and if you check in to one of the ‘amazing sea view rooms’ your bedfellows could be 'the peaceful, sleep-inducing sound of the sea and the flash of the famous Longstone lighthouse', the pub's website says. The pub has 46 en-suite rooms, and dogs are welcome to stay the night with a £10 supplement.

"Overnight guests can also avail of the spa, pool and fitness facilities at the village's Ocean Club, a five-minute walk away from the inn. Guests can enjoy views of the Northumberland coast towards the Farne Islands - which are home to thousands of grey seals - and the 11th-century Bamburgh Castle, the website reveals."
