Northside community works together to create wonderful local festival

A special community festival has been put together by locals of Artane to celebrate the area.

Faoin Spéir takes place in Artane on Saturday, June 18 and will see a slew of exciting elements come into play including drama, art and film.

The festival has been developed by Residents Associations of the surrounding areas of Rockfield Park with the support of Elected Members and the Area Office along with local professional Artists and curators, with funding from The Arts Council and Dublin City Council Arts Office.

Faoin Spéir has been in development since 2021 and will celebrate Rockfield Park as the centre of the community in Artane. The park is set to be flooded with music, movement and colour with a plethora of things taking place as part of the celebrations.

Highlights will include a workshop with Olwyn Lyons from CoisCéim Broadreach who has worked with older people in the area to create a new dance piece.

There will also be a promenade theatre performance which tells the story of the park through the eyes of the birds, developed by students of Coláiste Dhúlaigh and acclaimed physical theatre maker Hugh Brown.

As well as this, there will be a premiere of the film made by Donnycarney Youth Project and drama facilitator Dave Kelly and a performance by local singer-songwriter George Murphy.

The festival will also see other activities including storytelling, local bands, family friendly yoga classes, a mural painting project with local visual artist Dayana Bautista, a large scale banners designed by Sean Hanrahan in collaboration with four local primary schools and a parkwide yarn bomb installation.
