Northern mayors to meet Transport Secretary to discuss rail 'chaos'

Northern mayors are meeting with the Transport Secretary today (November 30) to demand action over the rail "chaos" across the region. Labour mayors from West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Manchester, Liverpool and North Tyneside are meeting Mark Harper to demand improvements are made.

In recent weeks, thousands of trains have been cancelled across northern England at short notice. Services affected include those run by TransPennine Express, Avanti West Coast and Northern.

Speaking ahead of the meeting in Manchester, West Yorkshire mayor Tracy Brabin said: “Enough is enough. The Transport Secretary has promised to get a grip on this crisis and we welcome that.
