Northern Ireland weather forecast for the weekend ahead

The weather is expected to be dry with sunny spells on Friday as we head into the weekend.

According to the Met Office, it will then cloud over from the west in the afternoon "making sunshine hazy and thicker cloud extending eastwards" in the evening.

Light winds are expected and a maximum temperature of 18C.

For Friday night, the forecaster added: "Thicker cloud may bring the odd patch of drizzle, otherwise mostly dry. It will be a mild night with light winds. Minimum temperature 9C."

Most places will have a dry morning and early afternoon on Saturday, but it's expected to be "rather cloudy with some bright spells".

Thicker cloud with light rain is to edge eastwards during the evening and a maximum temperature of 18C is predicted.

And for the outlook for Sunday to Tuesday, the Met Office said: "Dull, damp start to Sunday, becoming drier, brighter later. Mostly dry on Monday and Tuesday with a few light showers."

Maximum temperature: 15C

Minimum temperature: 7C

The UK long range weather forecast for Monday, May 22 to Wednesday, May 31 from the Met Office states: "Occasional rain is likely to occur across parts of norther Britain and Northern Ireland along with possible showers, some potentially heavy, in the east of England.

"As the week progresses and into the following week, the predominantly settled conditions should continue, with mostly fine and dry weather for many areas, though spells of more unsettled weather are possible in the northwest and perhaps far southeast...

"Daytime temperatures are expected to be generally close to normal, or slightly above normal, for this time of year."
