Northern Ireland weather: Forecast for the week ahead shows unsettled conditions

The new working week is set to bring more unsettled conditions on the weather front.

There's plenty of rain in the forecast over the coming days along with a good deal of cloud too.

But after the recent cold spells, there's some good news as it will remain mild with temperatures generally in double figures.

Sunday morning started off dry for many with some sunny spells, particularly in the east, before we saw rain spreading east in the afternoon.

Here's what to expect over the next few days, according to the Met Office.

Tonight:

Persistent, often heavy rain through the evening and much of the night. A few brief drier spells are possible in the early hours, most likely in the south. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Monday:

A dull, cloudy day with brisk southwest winds. Early morning persistent rain clears northwards, but further patchy rain at times through the rest of the day. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Outbreaks of rain, occasionally heavy, for much of the next few days with a risk of gales at times. Drier on Thursday with showers later.

UK long range weather forecast - Thursday 23 March - Saturday 1 April

On Thursday, rain clearing the far northeast, elsewhere sunny spells and blustery showers, heavy at times. These showers may increasingly fall as snow in the far north.

Low pressure is expected to dominate for the rest of the week, bringing showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times. Highest precipitation totals likely in the west, with comparatively drier conditions in the east.

Windy at times, with a risk of coastal gales. Throughout the rest of the period unsettled conditions are most likely to continue, with periods of strong wind and rain, interspersed with shorter, drier spells.

Temperatures likely close to average in the south but with a chance of becoming rather cold in the north.
