Northern Ireland health chiefs have told they are “deeply distressed” at the state of local hospitals but have outlined a raft of measures aimed at tackling crumbling services.
In a joint statement from the ‘Chief Executives of Northern Ireland’s Health Trusts’ issued on Monday afternoon, they said the measures are short-term solutions in the face of ongoing need for major investment, but warned they “cannot passively accept the status quo”.
The statement has been issued amid ongoing issues across the health sector ranging from under-pressure GP services to a lack of care packages slowing the discharge of patients from hospital and continuing industrial action involving the main health unions.
