Election day is almost here and there are some important points you need to know before heading to your polling station.
The local council elections are taking place on Thursday, May 18, and will see 462 councillors appointed across the 80 district electoral areas covering the 11 local authorities.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday and if there's a queue at your polling station, you'll still be able to vote as long as you joined the queue before 10pm.

Those heading to the polling station will need to take photo ID to vote. If you are not sure where to go to vote, all you need to do is check your poll card.
Your polling station will be on your poll card, which you should have received through the post a few weeks ahead of polling day.
You can also look on the Electoral Commission website and you can enter your postcode into the search to check where your polling station is.
When you enter your postcode, you’ll also be able to find out who is standing as a candidate in the election in your area. To find out more click here.
