A six-year-old boy, reported to be from Northern Ireland, has died following an incident at a swimming pool in Majorca.
The youngster was rushed to hospital in a “critical” state from a hotel in the resort of Sa Coma on Thursday after being treated at the poolside by emergency responders.
The unnamed child, reported locally to be from Northern Ireland, lost his fight for life on Sunday afternoon at the Son Espases Hospital in the island capital Palma.

It had initially been thought the pool incident occurred on Sunday, but well-placed sources confirmed the youngster had been in a hospital intensive care unit for three days prior to his death.
Civil Guard officers rushed to the scene along with local police but another force - Spain’s National Police - will now be asked to carry out an investigation into what happened.
A spokesman for the National Police in Palma said they were still awaiting more details and could not comment at this stage.
Well-placed hospital sources confirmed a six-year-old boy had died at Son Espases Hospital in Palma following an incident on Thursday.
One said: “He was admitted to intensive care on Thursday in a critical condition but sadly failed to pull through and died in hospital yesterday/on Sunday.”
The youngster was on holiday with his parents at a hotel, which has not been officially named.
The tragedy comes just days after tributes were paid to the “extraordinary and beautiful” life of toddler Freddie Briggs at his funeral mass in Belfast.
The 19-month-old sadly drowned in a tragic accident at a swimming pool near Benidorm in Spain earlier this month.
At the funeral mass in St Agnes’ Church last week, Fr Thomas McGlynn recalled a “perfect, beautiful, lovable, little life”.
