The ambitious development plans for an "iconic" hotel in North Wales have been submitted. The Royal Hotel lies in the heart of Llangollen - next to town's famous bridge, which is on the list of Seven Wonders of Wales.
Closed since 2019, business partners Tom Bellis and Matt Jones now want to transform the site in an investment worth £6.5m. The planning application for the Grade II listed site which and dates back to 1752 - has been submitted to Denbighshire council.
If the council approves the plans, the Royal would be redeveloped by One Hundred Knights, the Welsh company that is the driving force behind the nearby Tyn Dwr Hall wedding venue, the Three Eagles, Bar & Grill, and The BLK Sheep Baa & Grill. Mr Jones says the proposed redevelopment would conserve many of the historic characteristics of the hotel, and that refurbishment and development work would be undertaken with expert guidance from the Welsh historic environment service Cadw.
