North Leeds Food Festival will return to Roundhay Park for big summer party

One of the biggest food and drink festivals in Leeds will return this summer.

The North Leeds Food Festival will return to Roundhay Park this May with a full weekend of live entertainment, lots of food and drink and tasting sessions with local experts. Organisers promise a new line up for 2023 including cheese, wine, whiskey and chocolate tasting.

The festival will raise funds and awareness for Leeds-based charity, Leeds Mind, who provides help and support to those suffering with mental health.

The food festival will run on the weekend of May 13 and 14 for its 7th year. The festival has become a highlight on the calendar for foodies across Yorkshire, boasting hundreds of independent street food vendors serving up everything from pad Thai to Lebanese cuisine.

Guests will also be able to enjoy drinks including from Martini’s to New Zealand wine and Caribbean cocktails. For beer lovers, there will be a full ale house in place in collaboration with Leeds favourite North Brew Co.

At the heart of the festival lies the artisan markets, hosting hundreds of independent producers from across the north, offering everything from runny Scotch eggs to gooey brownies. There will also be a live music stage, cookery theatre with Leeds Cookery School, a live entertainers stage, kids activities, roaming comedy, cocktail making and interactive tasting sessions.

The festival will also run additional activities over the weekend to raise funds and awareness for Leeds-based charity Leeds Mind. In previous years it has raised over £68,000 for mental health charities.

Organisers also promise an 'enhanced customer experience' at the festival, organisers have said they will be investing heavily in infrastructure to speed up payment processing times and minimising queues.

Michael Johnston, the festival director, said: “We’re thrilled with the support we have received over the years. We’ve grown the offerings at the festival every year, and this year is no different. We’re adding a new interactive element, taking attendees on a tasting journey with food and drink experts from across the north.

“As well as the exciting stuff, we’re also investing heavily in the less exciting stuff, such as systems to improve customer service and minimise queue times. We want attendees to spend as much time enjoying the festivals as possible, which makes things such as satellite Wi-Fi necessary.”

Nikki Orrell, from the festival team, added: “We had giant chefs on stilts riding giant bicycles last year… quite the sight! They’ll be back, but this year we’ll be adding some tribute acts at the end of each day for a good knee’s up.
