North East weather: Hour-by-hour forecast for tonight and Monday according to the Met Office

With just one week to go until Christmas, the weather is set for a drastic change next week as the freezing temperatures finally lift.

After issuing an Amber alert for ice in the region on Sunday, the Met Office forecasts that sleet and snow will clear by tonight to give way to bands of heavy rain and blustery winds. Monday is set to be far milder than we've grown used to recently, with highs of up to 13°C in the North East.

In Newcastle the Yellow weather warning for snow and ice will lift by 8pm this evening as the milder temperatures kick in, with the mercury jumping by 10°C when Monday comes around. Although the sub-zero temperatures are on their way out, it will be an unsettled start to the week with heavy showers forecast.
