People across the North East have been enjoying the blistering summer sun recently as we head into the weekend. And many are keeping their fingers crossed that the good weather holds out for Plate Day.
Northumberland Plate Festival is back this Saturday with racegoers at Gosforth Park set to show off the usual array of glamorous outfits and headwear. While past Plate Days have seen a decent bit of rain, this year's highly-anticipated event could be sun-drenched.
According to the Met Office, the weather will start off dry and largely sunny but some scattered showers will develop in the west. These showers will become locally heavy over the hills but it will be sunnier and dry in the easternmost parts.
