Shops across the North East are taking part in a nationwide scheme to help struggling families this summer amid the cost of living crisis.
Local stores in Newcastle, Northumberland and Sunderland are offering shoppers grocery bundles for just 1p from today, Wednesday June 14, in a bid to help households with rising costs. The community-led promotion is in partnership with leading delivery platform Snappy Shopper, and is due to run until July.
The bundles will contain a variety of cupboard essentials for shoppers to stock up ahead of the summer holidays, from pasta to crisps and beans. Wednesday's promotion sees the scheme kick off with the 1p Big Brand Bundle, where customers will be able to get a variety of household brands for just a penny.

Following the Big Brand Bundle day on June 14, the next 1p bundle up for grabs will be the Household Bundle on June 21. This will be followed by the 1p Summer Holiday Bundle on June 29, and finally the 1p Cupboard Fillers Bundle on July 5.
