A North Dakota woman is accused of fatally poisoning her boyfriend with antifreeze just hours after he inherited a $30m (£25m) fortune.
Ina Thea Kenoyer, 47, has been charged with killing her boyfriend, 51-year-old Steven Riley Jr in Minot, North Dakota.
She is said to have given him the poison after learning that he planned to break up with her.
According to Minot Police Department records, Mr Riley became ill after he met with a lawyer in September to get the inheritance. It was worth up to $30m, according to the New York Post.
Ms Kenoyer called 911 the next day, and paramedics found Mr Riley unresponsive. He was hospitalised and died September 5.
Post-mortem results said the cause of death was poisoning.
“This case was extremely complex," Investigations Commander Captain Dale Plessas told local media.
“Thank you to everyone who provided us with information that helped our investigators piece this together.”
The 47-year-old has been charged with AA felony murder, the most severe murder charge under North Dakota law.
She told investigators that she was entitled to some of Riley's inheritance as his common-law wife and planned to split the money, which she estimated to be about $30 million, with his son, the records obtained by the Associated Press state.
She is being held at the Ward County Detention Center and is representing herself, according to court records.
The investigation is ongoing.
