North Carolina cop fired after being caught on camera repeatedly punching woman in the head during arrest

A North Carolina police officer was caught on a doorbell camera repeatedly punching a woman in the head during an arrest.

Shelby Police Officer Karson Hyder, 22, was charged with one count of assault inflicting serious injury following Friday’s (29 May) incident. Hyder was terminated Saturday (30 May) and arrested Monday (1 June).

The former officer turned himself in to the Cleveland County Detention Center, where he was later processed and released on a $10,000 secured bond.

The video, which shows Hyder pulling the woman to the floor before repeatedly hitting her, sparked protests in Shelby – a city near North Carolina’s southern border.

“I want to be clear that the inappropriate use of force is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by me, the Shelby Police Department or the City of Shelby,” police chief Brad Fraser said.
