Two North Ayrshire councillors were unable to sit on the local authority's licensing board last week after failing a mandatory test.
Conservative councillors Ronnie Stalker and Angela Stephen were not able to make the grade required to sit on the regulatory body.
Members of the public must pass an exam to gain a personal or premises licence and councillors issuing the documents must also pass a test tailored for elected officials.
Members have three months to pass the exam following being elected to the licensing board.
But the two Tory officials both failed the test ahead of the council's first meeting of the board on Monday, June 20 and neither were allowed to sit on the board.
Councillor Stalker told Ayrshire Live that he wasn't able to attend the licensing board meeting anyway as he was jetting off on a family holiday.
But the Conservative councillor did confirm he has now passed the test after resitting it on holiday in Turkey.
He said: "I could not attend licensing board meeting as I was flying out on a family holiday, booked 2020 cancelled three times but happy to say made it this time.
"I passed exam back in November but as it only lasts for council term I had to resit. Happy to say I passed resit today while on holiday.
"I rescheduled exam at earliest date possible just happened to be I took it while in Turkey."
Angela Stephen did not respond to our repeated attempts for comment.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “Members elected to the licensing board have a period of three months following election to the Board to quality for the position.
"Accordingly, all members of the board require to be qualified in time for the next scheduled Board meeting on Monday, September 5, 2022.”
