Tragedy struck in New York as well, with the wife of a New York Yankees executive losing her life when her car was hit by a falling tree in Armonk.
The storm's strong winds, reaching gusts of over 40 mph, combined with heavy snowfall in northern New England, led to significant power outages. As of Friday morning, more than 300,000 homes and businesses in Maine and New Hampshire remain without power, leaving many without indoor heating.
While the heaviest snow has passed, lingering power outages are expected to persist due to gusty winds and light snowfall. The National Weather Service has warned of the potential for additional downed branches and limbs as a result of the weight of the freshly fallen snow.
