Nokia's return to the tablet market is the inexpensive T20, which lacks premium features such as an OLED screen and fast processor and opts instead to provide a basic but pleasing Android experience at an affordable price.
It’s only the firm’s second tablet, coming eight years after the Nokia N1.
The 10.4in slate has simple, minimal design and build with a surprisingly sharp 2K resolution screen surrounded by old school bezels.
The Ocean Blue finish is crafter from sandblasted aluminium. The power button sits on the top right-hand side, with the volume controls to the right of that.
It is enjoyable to watch movies and TV content on the T20 and the sufficiently loud stereo speakers on either side of the bright and colourful LCD screen help.
The aspect ratio is 5:3, a little taller than the 4:3 employed on iPad, while it can reach 400 nits of brightness.
Performance
Under the hood is a Unisoc Tiger T610 octa-core processor. This means you won’t be zipping through productivity tasks with this machine but it is fine for everyday online use such as messaging, browsing and emailing. The OS is Android 11.
My test unit came with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage which can be expanded up to 512GB with a micro-SD card.
The T20 houses a poor 8MP rear camera but I wouldn’t let this deter you from buying as nobody really uses tablets for taking photos.
The 5MP selfie camera does an acceptable job on video chats and the on board microphones are impressive. The camera is positioned on the side of the unit which is useful for taking calls in landscape mode.
Battery life
Battery life is considerable, thanks to an 8200mAh power pack which from my experience lasts about 10 hours of continuous use, the same as Apple’s entry-level iPad.
Recharging is by USB-C but the charger in the box is only 10w even though the T20 supports 15w wired charging.
You can see this tablet is aimed at children by the inclusion of Google Kids Space, which works in parallel with your child’s Google Account and which you can manage with Family Link parental controls.
The firm sells a protective Rugged Flip Cover too, which I would recommend you purchase too, whether you are buying the tablet for yourself or an offspring.
There is no Nokia branded keyboard or stylus for T20.
Verdict
The T20 is not aimed at power users or gamers but it’s a decent entertainment device with a sleek design, great battery life and a sharp screen.
If the slow recharging and poor camera are not issues for you then this is a good choice of pure Android tablet.
