Noida: At home & abroad, 19-year-old’s run of resolve wins hearts and plaudits

NOIDA: Filmmaker Vinod Kapri was driving down in Noida when he chanced upon 19-year-old Pradeep Mehra running at full tilt after his shift got over at 9pm. He offered to give him a ride.

The teenager did not stop, slowing down ever so slightly to respond to the filmmaker’s questions. “Daud ke hi jata hoon, ye mere roz ka routine hai (I run back every day, this is my daily routine),” he said. When Kapri asked him, ‘Daud kyun rahe ho (why are you running)”, Mehra responded, “Army ke liye (to join the Army)”. Kapri called it “pure gold”.
