Noel Gallagher sparks debate as he releases 'Made in Manchester' Spotify playlist

Manchester music icon Noel Gallagher has paid tribute to his home city with a new Spotify playlist - but his brother barely features. The High Flying Birds and former Oasis star is never one to shy away from putting his neck on the line with his strong views.

And the 55-year-old, from Burnage, has sparked debate online after releasing his Made in Manchester playlist. Beginning with one of his own tracks, Pretty Boy , the playlist includes more than three hours' worth of songs.

Legendary artists featured include Joy Division, The Stone Roses and The Smiths. Happy Mondays, The Fall and New Order also feature on the list.

Noel is usually someone to get people talking - and true to form, his playlist is dividing opinion. Twitter users were quick to spot the lack of Liam Gallagher on the playlist, with none of his solo tracks featuring and just one Oasis song with his vocals, Supersonic .

@Scalenesallen1 wrote: "Taking the p*** now. Where’s Liam at?" @RobAClark tweeted: "Can’t be taken seriously without any @liamgallagher tracks on it"

@Gary1984Gary added: "Come on Noel bit of Liam in this" But it hasn't just been the lack of Noel's brother that has got people talking, with others describing the list as 'dull' and questioning other missing artists, such as The Hollies.

@songpushermcr wrote: "This list has been done a million times before. Missed opportunity to big up emerging Manc guitar bands and artists." Noting the lack of female artists in the playlist, @AprilPreston_ added: "Women exist."

In a tweet revealing the playlist, Noel's official Twitter account said: "Launched just in time for your New Year’s celebrations; Noel’s ‘Made In Manchester’ @SpotifyUK playlist takeover - featuring over 3 hours of personally curated tracks."
