Noel Gallagher aims dig at Manchester United as he talks up Man City's treble chances

Noel Gallagher couldn't help but aim a cheeky dig in the direction of Manchester United as he bigged up Manchester City's treble chances.

City took a massive step towards finally lifting the elusive Champions League trophy as they hammered Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday night. Should they successfully navigate the away leg next week, they will meet either Chelsea or holders Real Madrid in the last four.

As well as Europe's top prize, City could also claim the Premier League and FA Cup to win an historic treble. Pep Guardiola's side are locked in an intense battle with Arsenal for the domestic crown while the Blues are favourites to reach the FA Cup final ahead of a last four date with Championship side Sheffield United.

Awaiting City in the final could be neighbours United for the first ever Manchester derby FA Cup final. Erik ten Hag's outfit face Brighton in the other last four tie although avid City fan Gallagher is predicting a Seagulls win.

"Oh you better believe it," he told talkSPORT when asked if City could win the treble and match United's own achievement from 1999. "Because we've got Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final, probably Brighton in the final – if we get there. Then hopefully Chelsea will somehow manage to jam it against Real Madrid and then we'll annihilate them.

"But in all seriousness though, these are the moments you live for. We've got 15 or 16 games left, all finals. This could be it. It's real. Nobody spoke about it for the last four months and now all of a sudden, you're thinking 'hang on a minute' they're still in for this treble here. And after watching that (against Bayern), I wouldn't bet against it."
