The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics to Francis Halzen for his decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.
Halzen’s work helped establish the IceCube observatory at the South Pole, where researchers use sensors placed in a cubic kilometre of clear glacial ice to detect neutrinos from the distant universe.
